Briefing:
By Ken Koleda
Despite a bit of snow in some areas the night before, attendance at the January meeting was quite above average. This was particularly good due to the need to achieve quorum for club amendments and election of new officers.
After sufficient oogling of Jim Garret’s outstanding, and exceedingly large Fisher building, and Spencer Rezkella’s brand new selectively-compressed Sears tower, the meeting was called to order by 2004 club president Peter Gunther about 1:30pm. Business commenced immediately with nominations and election for the four offices. All nominees were unopposed and voted for by hand vote. All votes were unanimous.
- President: Jason Spears
- Vice President: Lester Witter
- Treasurer: Chris Leach
- Secretary: Ken Koleda
Amendment to the bylaws on emeritus stats was described and passed unanimously. As new President, Jason Spears led the balance of the business meeting with a description of the upcoming shows in chronological order.
Peter provided a brief summary of the Festival of Trees. Our hard work paid off any we were able to raise a significant amount for the Michigan Children’s Hospital. A suggestion was made by Peter that we should consider incorporating the club and non-profit status. He volunteered to lead a committee to explore this issue and bring a report to the club at the earliest possible future date.
Jason reported that the additional skirting and related supplies have been purchased at a similar price to what we got before so we will double our skirting total to 320 feet. This will provide us much more flexibility in the future with potential for skirting on each side of the state, potentially to do the inside edges of the tables for some shows and just generally to do larger layouts (if we have the tables). Skirting will be done for March GATS. Big thanks to Jason’s Mom for sewing that up for us!
Business closed and the meeting concluded with a parts draft. Upon completion of the draft about 12 members retired to Relli’s for the usually feasting.
