Briefing:

By Ken K

The October meeting was used to celebrate a bit of a milestone for the club as we have now been bricking for five years! I think it may have been Jason Spears idea initially to make this more of a ‘party’ and thanks to Jason for suggesting it even though he knew he would not be there. The club provided burgers and hot dogs coordinated by Chris Leach and attendees brought drinks and dishes to pass.

The meeting kicked off around 12:00. I arrived at about 4:00 so I missed items at the beginning…

Stefan showed us a game mod for Homeworld; he has been working on for some time) He has modeled classic space Lego ships and creates some with a classic space flavor to complete all the types needed for the game. His work was selected by a gaming magazine as one of the top five coolest mods out there.

However, after we had eaten we had a presentation by Spencer. He unveiled his minifig-scaled Sears tower. if I recall correctly 40 stories and it just barely fit in Lester’s basement without the antenna on top. Spencer once again went to incredible lengths to build in as much detail as possible including the lobby done extensively in pearl light gray. Of course, this was all backed up with a full blown presentation complete with numerous PowerPoint slides.

Trevor Pruden brought his latest capital ship he is working on as well as some smaller ships as ‘decoys’ for the customs agents. He mentioned that if they see the small ships they are less likely to feel a need to handle the large ships – therefore less likely to break them.

We had a guest, Peter Alway, from Ann Arbor showed up near the very end of the meeting with the dulcimer again and I believe also a small kind of microscale white and red MOC that appeared to be inspired by a museum.

Business

  • I believe we had a short discussion of upcoming shows such as Festival of Trees… and that was the extent of the actual business for the meeting:
  • City of Westland Public Library - Nov 19th (weekend before Thanksgiving) - We have been invited to work with them, as this is close to many members, we are mostly likely going to do something. Details to be worked out as we get closer to the date.
  • Festival of Trees 2005. November 20th-27th.
  • COSI Toy Factory event. December 29th through January 1st. They have invited us to display during this time. We have not committed to this event, as we are concerned about the dates.
  • Ann Arbor Model Railroad Club - Saline, MI - Feb 18th-19th. We had a date conflict for 2005, so they invited us for their 2006 event to get in early.

After a fair amount of additional snacking, the meeting wrapped around 7:00.
