Briefing:
By Jim Garrett
I voluntered my house in Redford, Michigan for this meeting.
The Great Train Story
Spencer brought a DVD entitled The Great Train Story which presents the HO scale train layout in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. This massive layout features the cities of Seattle and Chicago plus intervening rural and industrial areas. The story is how raw materials and finished goods are transported across America. Perhaps the layout and the story behind it can give us some ideas for the MichLTC display at the NMRA 2007 National Train Show in Detroit next July.
Parts Draft
The primary focus of the meeting was a massive parts draft. This was a welcome event since we had not had a parts draft in a considerable time. Thanks to the club members who sorted the parts at a prior meeting and a sorting party. Thanks also to Dave, Chris, and both Steves who showed up early at the meeting to help set up the draft bins. Due to the large number of parts, we decided to defer the technic parts to a separate draft in a future meeting.
MOCs
Club members presented several new MOCs, all in minfig scale except where noted:
- Bricksburg Navy Gunboat (Ken, K.)
- Tawas Point Lighthouse with mindstorm controlled light (Steve R.)
- Autorack car and Hopper cars (Spencer R.)
- Dump truck, Toyota SUV, and panel truck (Spencer R.)
- Penobscot Building (1928 version), under construction (Jim G.)
- LCAD house (Dave)
- Microscale Detroit city block (Michael B.)
Business
Since the draft and other activites took up a lot of time, officer nominations were deferred, so we will want to schedule another meeting before the end of the year or conduct this business online. We discussed future events such as the First Lego League and the loss of the Festival of Trees event (they are reorganizing and did not have room for a train display this year).
The meeting closed around 5:30. After a transfer of some train tables from Scott's trailer to the MichLUG trailer, the club members dispersed.
