Thursday, May 15th:
Tony and I arrived around 4:30PM at Novi, where Steve-2 and others were already there, and we unloaded and went to work. The tables went up quickly, and people started working on the layout. We had some minor errors, like not enough baseplates, I forgot a switch at home, that kind of thing, but at the end of Thursday night, we had most of the setup completed. Tony had to rebuild parts of the mountain, and Steve-2 rebuilt the white
moonbase modules, which were damaged in transit, while I worked on setting up the mine, the containers, and the landing area. There were a lot of people that showed up Thursday night to help, and it was great to have that much help.
Friday, May 16th:
Tony and I arrived around 8:30AM and started finishing up the layout. Stefan, his mom and grandmother arrived soon after and we went to work. Rick, Trevor, and others arrived at various points in the morning, and when the show started at 12:30PM it was pretty quiet. We had a number of different areas, the space layout, the building table, the Star Wars models table, and the Castle area. We actually had a vendor display a creation of his in the castle area, which was really neat. A number of members went to check out the sites of the show, and we answered a lot of questions about the display, etc. Since Tony finished up the soccer set, we added some Rebels and Empire minifigs, and played soccer with them. Trevor also brought his capitol ships, which where a big hit. The most asked question / statement was a variation of “You have too much time on your hands.” We had some fun with some people who dress up as various characters, they were nice enough to pose with their minifig counterparts:
Near the end of the first night, John de Lancie (Starred as Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation) actually stopped by our layout and was nice enough to get a picture with Stefan Garcia. We parted around 8:00PM and we went our separate ways.
Saturday, May 17th:
Saturday was crowded, much more than Friday, as we suspected that a lot of people were working on Friday, so they came on Saturday. We changed the layout each day to make some variation. It was hard to get around the
show and most of us stayed in our area. Chris Leach worked on his building for the other MichLTC show we had in Durand. I was working on the UCS Rebel Blockade Runner while Trevor worked on the UCS X-Wing. Since we had the
building table, one of the stormtroopers stayed at our display most of the day, and it appeared we had a guard the whole time.
Trevor finished the UCS X-Wing, and I was still working on the RBR, as it is hard to answer questions and build, being out of the proper building environment in the LSF. : ) It was a long day, and we all left around 7:30PM.
Sunday, May 18th:
They opened up a little late again, but it wasn’t a big deal. Tony and Rick were there and I started again on the RBR. Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar, from Star Trek the Next Generation) looked at our display as well,
which was quite neat. The big joke of the day was if Scott could get it done by the show’s close. It was fairly quiet, as Saturday seemed to be the busiest day. We changed the layout again, and Tony started building the UCS Tie Interceptor, and finished it before me also. I actually finished the RBR around 3:30PM, which was about 1-1/2 hours away from the show close, but I was happy I could do that! Trevor’s ships got a lot of questions and there were hardly any costumes on Sunday. At 5:00PM, the show closed, and we tore down and were able to leave around 6:30PM, since we had a lot of help for tearing down, thanks again for that. We were not able to drive
into the center, so we carried it all out.
In conclusion, it was a great show, and I am looking forward to more space and castle stuff, hopefully we will be able to go to another of these. I think if we can find some more shows like this, we will have a showing
for both our train-related interests and our space / castle area interests as well.
