Ypsilanti Railroad Days celebrates the long history of the railroad passing through the town. The display was setup in the Ypsilanti Rail Depot. This building was originally built as a three story depot in 1860. A fire in 1910 destroyed the second and third stories. The depot was rebuilt as a one story building with a tower. This was MichLTC's first display actually inside a train station. The station is a beautiful building that Ypsilanti is raising money to refurbish.
Setup went smoothly on Friday night, with some finishing touches on Saturday morning. The majority of the buildings were furnished by Chris and Spencer, however Steve Ringe created his first town building. The town was detailed with Chris' new traffic lights and street lamps. Also Spencer's sidewalk design and his mailboxes really gave the layout an extra kick. The show opened up to small crowds, but it picked up a bit as the day went on. Ypsilanti residents had the same questions that we get for all of our displays. We managed to make through this entire show without one engine hitting the floor.
The show ended at 4pm and teardown went quickly. This was probably the first show where we were home before sundown. The Ypsilanti Rail Depot was very happy with us and mentioned that they would love to have us back again.
