Report by Chris Leach
This was a last minute show. We received a call from the GATS folks less then 48 hours before the show opened to see if we could fill in for a club that had to drop out. With the help off new gentlemen (Justin), a transfer from D.C. (Greg), a pair of Steves and a weird construction guy the club was able to pull off a decent display.
Since we had just a small display, by our standards, we did just Saturday morning setup. Everyone pretty much showed up at about 7:30. Tables went up nice and fast and the baseplateing began. Greg liked our baseplates that were pretracked as they save a lot of time in setup (not something they did in WamaLUG, he mentioned), Justin brought some buildings. We needed to do a couple of small changes to get 3 of his buildings to fit in our 2x3 blocks. When done, they came out great considering they wern't really designed to fit together that way.
Justin and Greg got to see first hand the legend of the table monster that is that Chris guy. They also learned first hand how much fun it is in doing all our detail work. Greg and Justin spent a couple of hours each getting their green thumbs in order by planting trees, flowers, etc. The show opened and the crowds weren't huge like we are used to at Novi GATS show but there were a steady stream all day.
Day two we decided to add the monorail. The only problem was that the Chris guy brought lots of track and pillers but not a train!! Steve W was kind enough to drive the short distance to his home to bring a train.
All in all, it was a great show with lots of details, new members and their buildings, old members with some new buildings, and a great water scene by Steve Ringe.
Teardown went well. We started about 4:45 and were out the door by 6:00, which I'm sure is a record for us. Everyone pretty much went straight home as most of us were tired from putting together a show this fast. A great time thought was had by all.
