Report by Jason Spears
This was MichLUG's second event with COSI, a children's museum in Toledo, Oh. We had the pleasure to work with COLTC again, which is always a blast. We also had an excellent spot this year, right through the main entrance.
Setup went quickly on Saturday morning. We made use of banquet tables provided by COSI, which, with a some shimming and wood blocks, worked fine. Chris, Ken, his son Trevor, Jim, and Jason provided buildings for this layout. Larry loaned his track and rolling stock and this was the debut of his ASTF consist.
Ken's son Trevor brought a nifty selection of trackside buildings, including some liquid containers, a historical caboose and a car dealership. Jim brought his Art Museum. Ken brought his Armory. Chris made up some EL cars and track before the show, which really added a lot to the layout. Jason had actually just finished work on his large hotel on Friday afternoon. The roof was pretty sparse, but he had to get on the road to make it into Toledo at a decent hour.
The museum was pretty busy most of Saturday, with somewhere around 1500 people seeing the layout. The event was covered by two TV station, so we expected Sunday to be even more crowded. However, the weather took a turn for the worse and it snowed pretty much all day.
Teardown went well and both clubs were packed up in short order. COSI has already talked to us about working with them in December and we are looking at dates that work for everyone.
